Isaan, Thailand
Joshua project.net labels Isaan as a "Least Reached People Group". This means that less than 1% of the population of 18,000,000 is Christian, while most Isaan people practice a mix of Buddhist/Animist religion. It is also known as a region where the majority of sexual slaves in Thailand originate due to poverty, materialism, religion, and family pressures. The family is also an issue of great concern with parents often absent seeking better economic opportunities leading to multiple issues in the spouses and children including the ladyboy phenomenon, polygamy, divorce, teen pregnancy, and the aforementioned prostitution.
The Team
Angela, Jonathan, and Jacob have all answered God's call to Isaan having been prepared by working with children in schools, ministries, and foster institutions. Each of them has a great passion for children and seeing them come to Christ and be discipled. They learned of the injustice of human trafficking through HOPE Be Restored and witnessed first hand how the gospel sets the captives free. It was there that they learned of the situation in Isaan and the vision that God has for it.
The Mission
It has become apparent that ministry to children in Isaan is lacking. This often leaves children vulnerable to many bad situations such as sex trafficking, identity confusion, and drugs. The team is working to build a ministry to reach children in the 4/14 window and raise a generation of disciples who will be firmly grounded in the gospel and will change Isaan and all of Thailand for the Kingdom of God. First, they endeavor to plant a children's church that will eventually lead to a full family church. As this is highly a pioneering venture, they are currently busy building relationships with other ministries and local people, mastering the language, and praying and listening for God's leading.
